Fire crews fighting brush fire off Wildcat/Barona roads

Update, 4:50 p.m.—

Some engines are being released from the scene as firefighters work to contain the fire. According to scanner conversation, the brush fire includes 10 to 12 acres on the north side of Wildcat Canyon Road and 2 acres on the south side.

Update, 4:05 p.m.—

Crews are working to extinguish the brush fire several miles north of Barona Casino, off Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside. California Highway Patrol has closed roads in the area and says the fire may have started at a shooting range.

Update, 3:52 p.m.

—Fire has spread to 15 acres.

Monday, May 13, 3:27 p.m.—

Firefighters are responding to a five-acre brush fire reported about 3:15 p.m. Monday off Wildcat Canyon and Barona roads.

According to rural fire’s scanner, the fire is near the 4.7 mile marker. Air and ground support has been ordered.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Sentinel at 760-789-1350, extension 109, or comment on this site.
