Coaches Robin Brainard, Cori McDonald, and Julie Doria have put their Bulldog softball team into a position to win the Valley League in the final week of the season.

The Lady Dawgs beat Oceanside and Mission Vista High Schools and a three win week in the final week will give the girls as least a share of the Valley League title.

Alissa Hiener got the start and went the distance in a 12-0 victory over Mission Vista in a game shortened by the mercy rule. Hiener limited the Timberwolves to three hits and struck out eight. She did not surrender a base on balls and the Bulldog defense played errorless ball. Hiener also helped her cause as a hitter as she picked up two hits and drove in two runs.

Kenzie Wright and Jazmin Simone had three hit outings. Wright drove in three runs and scored two runs. Kailey Hill, Adrianna Johnson, and Amber Davis had two hit outings. Davis scored three runs. Bre Hirsh made the most of her one hit as she legged out a triple. Hill also hit a triple in the game. Julie Ward and Sara Rodriguez delivered singles in the game.

“Bre Hirsh had a great game. She stepped in and caught the entire game and then delivered an RBI triple. She has had an excellent attitude all year and it was great to see her have a great game. All too often the girls that don’t get to play all of the time get ignored. Our entire team has had a great attitude and has supported one and other in every game. When called upon they give it their all,” said McDonald.

Ramona opened the week with a 9-0 win over Oceanside High School on the road. Hill got the start and again was dominating in the circle. The junior flame thrower gave up a two out single in the bottom of the first inning and then was un-hittable. Hill only allowed three base runners after the hit. One Pirate reached on an error and Hill issued two walks as she struck out 11. Hill also collected three hits and drove in a run.

Johnson had a three hit outing. Her big blast was a two run home run in the second inning. Simone had two singles and an RBI from her leadoff position in the batting order. Heather Celaya, Wright, and Hiener all had RBI singles. Ward also drove in a run. Davis singled and scored a run.

Going into the final week of the season, the Lady Bulldogs are 15-12 overall and 5-2 in the Valley League. This week the team has a chance to earn a share of the Valley League pennant. Ramona is in third, a game behind Valley Center (6-1) and Del Norte (7-1) and plays both teams at home. The girls also play Orange Glen at home. If they win out, they will win at least a share of the league title.
