Firefighters extinguish 15-acre grass fire in Witch Creek area east of Ramona

Update, 4:30 p.m.—

Fire crews have contained the Witch Creek fire and are mopping up the scene, reports Cal Fire Battalion Chief Ray Chaney.

The fire reached approximately 15 acres. Cause is unknown. No structures were damaged and there are no known injuries, Chaney said.

Update, 4:18 p.m.—

Cal Fire has released aircraft and canceled a helicopter from the Witch Creek fire.

Update, 4:05 p.m.—

Firefighters are actively battling the fire near Cal Fire’s Witch Creek Station. The fire has grown to 8 to 10 acres, reports Cal Fire Battalion Chief Ray Chaney.

Ground and air crews are being sent to a vegetation fire in the 27200 block of Highway 78 east of Ramona.

Cal Fire has reported a vegetation fire off Highway 78 in the Witch Creek area east of Ramona.
