The Ramona High School girls softball team played six games in five days, winning their first two games last week and losing the next four, all by one run, to end the week with a 3-6 record.
The Bulldog girls unleashed an 11-hit eight run barrage against Clairemont High School in a Cougar Classic game to beat the Chieftains 8-4.
Ramona opened the game with a five-run first inning, compliments of five hits, and never trailed in the game. Kailey Hill had a 3-for-3 outing with a home run and two RBIs. Julie Ward also posted a 3-for-3 day and scored two runs.
Hill and Ward shared the pitching duties. Hill went the first three innings and did not give up a run while striking out five and limiting the Chieftains to three hits. Ward went the final three and gave up four runs on six hits as she fanned four.
Christina Barrameda and Jazmin Simone both went 1-for-3. Barrameda drove in a run. Alissa Hiener had a 2-for-3 outing with two RBIs.
Hill limited Southwest High School to five hits and did not give an earned run in a 7-1 win. She struck out 11 in six innings.
Ramona blasted eight hits in the game. Barrameda and Hiener each had two hits games. Hill, Davis, Ward, Cassie Jimenez, Ashley Pittman, and Simone also contributed hits to the offense. Davis had a triple and scored three runs and drove in a run. Ward and Pittman also had RBIs.
The Lady Dawgs lost an extra inning heartbreaker to Cathedral Catholic after taking a one-run lead in the top of the eighth.
After finishing regulation tied at two, Ramona scored a run in the top of the eighth when Hiener scored after a single. Cathedral loaded the bases and won on a walk-off shot that would have been a home run but the field had no fence so when the go ahead run scored, the final score was 4-3. Hill, Davis and Ward all had two-hit games. Ward had an RBI. Jimenez also had a hit in the game.
Ward went the distance and took the loss. She gave up two earned runs on four hits and struck out four.
Ramona lost another heartbreaker to Poway, 3-2 on the road. Again unearned runs haunted the Lady Dawgs as Hill pitched six innings and did not surrender an earned run as she gave up three hits and fanned 10. The Titans limited Ramona to four hits as Adrianna Johnson, Barrameda, and Ward all hit singles, and Davis ripped a double.
Ramona’s luck did not change as the girls traveled to Pt. Loma High School and lost to the Pointers in extra innings, 4-3.
Ward got the start in the circle and pitched four innings. She had a no-hitter going for three innings, but tired in the fourth and gave up four runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame. Hill took over in the fifth and pitched 3-2/3 innings, giving up one run on one hit and a walk-off double. She struck out six.
