Ramona Wrestling Club members place in championships

Ramona Wrestling Club, “The Pound,” took 10 youth qualifiers to compete at the San Diego, Imperial Kids Wrestling Association (SDIKWA) Championships in El Centro, Feb. 24, and many came back winners.

Jacob McElwee, Ryan Badgett, and Tyler Badgett earned first place finishes. Carson Dupill, Colin Dupill, and Matthew Populin achieved second place finishes. Fourth place went to Kyle Beals, and 5th place to Jason Beals and Joshua Dutra.

To qualify for this tournament each wrestler had to have at least five tournaments under his belt that included two association tournaments.

The wrestlers practice five days a week, conditioning for tournaments that are held on Sundays, said head coach Eddie Badgett. What makes The Pound stand out is the quality time and effort that each coach and wrestler puts into the practices, according to the club.
