Bulldog golf opens season with two wins and a new strategy

Over 30 athletes tried out for the Ramona High golf team and coach Jerry Patenaude is keeping 14 on the varsity squad. Only six golfers play during a match.

“Torrey Pines plays the maximum amount of matches and its No. 1 only plays in 13 matches. I am taking a page from his book,” explained Patenaude.

So far it is working as the Bulldog golf team beat San Pasqual and Westview to open the 2013 season, and used 11 golfers in the two matches.

In the season opener at San Vicente Golf Resort, Ramona beat San Pasqual 225-233. Ryan Graf was the medalist as he posted a score of 40 on the par 36 front nine. Kazar Motoian was one shot back as he carded a 41. Jason Morton shot 46 and Tanner Angel recorded a 47. Frankie Romero shot 51 and Cody Anderson-Parks had a 53.

Patenaude used a different line-up when Ramona beat Westview 223-241. Wolverine Torrey Munoz got medalist honors with a 39. Ramona’s ability to group its scores was the major factor in the victory. Jacob Buckley and Mike Smith both fired 42 for the Dawgs. Thomas Andrews carded a 44. Ben Anderson-Parks shot 46 and Mikey Hall shot 49. Drew Kaminsky shot 52.

“I was impressed with the improvement of Kazar (Motoian), Jacob (Buckley) and Mike (Smith). They have worked on their game and have improved greatly. I also was impressed with the lone freshman on the varsity, Thomas Andrews. He shot a solid 44 in his first high school match,” said Patenaude.
