Ramona Junior Fair kicks off with dogs, rabbits, goats, more

The 42nd Annual Ramona Junior Fair opens with a dog show at 9 a.m. on Saturday and closes with the livestock auction on Aug. 3, followed by large and small animal round robin and awards on Aug. 4.

Presented by Ramona Junior Fair, all activities except the horse show will be at the junior fairgrounds, 431 Aqua Lane, and will feature members of 4-H, FFA and Grange groups from Ramona, Julian, Poway, Escondido, San Marcos, Valley Center, Santa Ysabel, Lakeside and other East County communities.

Home Ec entries will be checked in on Saturday, and the afternoon rabbit/cavy show will begin at 3.

Sunday will showcase goats at 9 a.m. and a llama/alpaca show at 11 a.m. The annual horse show will be at the Aspin Ranch, 1815 Pamo Road, at 2 p.m.

Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on July 30, with July 31 dedicated to market sheep and goats, breeding Boer goat show, sheep and goat showmanship and bred and fed.

Aug. 1 is reserved for swine: market, showmanship and bred and fed. Aug. 2 is veal, beef and dairy cattle.

The highlight of the fair will be auction day on Saturday, Aug. 3. Buyer check-in starts at 11 a.m., pre-auction announcements at 12:30 p.m., and auction of swine, rabbits, goats, chickens and sheep beginning at 1 p.m. The veal and beef auction will start after the Buyers Dinner.
