A Ramona man who slammed his car into the Canyon Crest Apartments while intoxicated will be released from jail on July 9, according to the sheriff’s department.

Charles Wayne Scott, 21, was sentenced to one year in jail, but he received credit for already serving 177 days when El Cajon Superior Court Judge Charles Ervin sentenced him last month. He is barred from drinking alcohol for five years while he is on probation, court records show.

Scott is also prohibited from returning to the Canyon Crest Apartments in the 1700 block of La Brea Street and was ordered to stay away from two people who live there. He was fined $2,024 and ordered to pay $1,127 in probation costs.

Scott pleaded guilty to drunk driving with injury in the June 8, 2012, incident that occurred at 11:30 a.m. The collision damages the kitchens of two units, but the building had no structural damage.

Scott is serving his sentence in the East Mesa Detention Facility. He had been free on his own recognizance until Feb. 20 when he turned in proof of attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings that were dated for July 2013. Deputy District Attorney Ron Mendes said dates he submitted “didn’t match up with reality,” and Ervin remanded him to jail.

Ervin dismissed two minor hit and run charges that happened the same day in the Kmart parking lot and at the corner of La Brea and Day streets.
