DSC_1411.WEBfeatureStudents at Hanson Elementary School participate in Jump Rope for Heart on Valentine’s Day to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Twirling the jump rope are fourth-graders Mia Devlin and Jack Roseberry as Jacob Macias, left, Olivia Villalpando and Nick Husovsky jump high in unison. All grades took part in the fundraiser, led by second-grade teacher Sherry Torpin and specialized academic instructor Vida Pedrico-Philbrick. This is the 10th year the two teachers have organized the event. Students obtain pledges and have raised anywhere from $500 to $3,000 for the American Heart Association, said Torpin. Principal Chris Gunnett thanked Ransom Brothers True Value for donating large jump ropes. Retired teacher Judy Gunnett and her family also donated ropes.
