Ramona’s Trainer: Re-SOLUTION for the New Year

Share

RamonasTrainer.storyBy Peter San Nicolas

The new year is here and what are you going to do about your fitness? We all need to resolve to make a Re-SOLUTION. I’m not going to give you some ideas as to what might help you, I’m going to give the SOLUTION.

“Wait a minute, I thought we were all unique individuals with unique macro nutrient needs, workout regimens and baggage.” Yes and no. We continue to make the issue more complex than it needs to be.

YES, there are those with special needs. Those special populations exist and need to be dealt with accordingly, but if you are in the 95 percent of the population without, these three tips will change your life if choose to let them.

SEARCH OUT YOUR MOTIVATION

To be honest, over the past five years I had let my fitness slip from peak health to mediocre. I gave into all the same excuses I hear at the club — busy, injured, tired, not fun. The list goes on and on.

Sometimes it takes internal and external motivation to get yourself jump-started. I inadvertently compared a picture of myself from 8 years ago to a current one and realized, for me, I had slacked off and given into mediocrity.

“It’s only natural to get in worse shape as we age.” B.S. Another excuse.

Tell that to my 75-year-old client Nadine who is in the best shape of her life. No, no, don’t give in and don’t give up!

COMMIT

You must commit to the change. You must make a conscious decision to be you, only better. You must commit to days, times and duration of your fitness. Let’s face it. We are all overscheduled and overworked. When you go to the doctor, the dentist, the chiropractor, you schedule an appointment because you know you must value these key areas and take care of yourself. Fitness is no different. FITNESS IS NOT OPTIONAL and EXCUSES ARE NOT WELCOME.

There is always time and there is almost always a way to get it done, despite limitation or physical issues.

TELL THE WORLD...

Yes, tell the world and have those key people in your life really keep you accountable for being successful. We need to have others who will build us up and encourage us when we just feel like lounging around, going for that fifth slice of pizza or pressing that snooze button for the eighth time.

Get accountable and get results. Tell the world, and those who want to shoot you down or want you to be satisfied, move on. Yes we are all beautiful in our uniqueness. We still need to be proactive and take care of ourselves and be healthy and we must FIGHT THIS JOURNEY TOGETHER.

Make this clear. I am not bashing anyone who is overweight. I would never make fun or alienate anyone for any reason. My goal this week is to push you to the edge. At the edge, change happens, life happens, you really start living. Good luck and check out www.ramonastrainer.com for articles, workouts, videos and how you can get started on your path to you, only better!
