Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 36th Annual Barbecue Fundraiser, open to the public and featuring a host of family-friendly activities, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

Included at the event will be a dunk tank, a pie booth where participants can “pie the chiefs,” firefighter competitions, a beer and wine garden, a camel from Oasis Camel Dairy, an auction and opportunity drawings.

For $5 a ticket, event-goers can enter an opportunity drawing with a $1,000 grand prize.

Also at the fundraiser will be Velocity Paintball, Stone Brewery and KSON-FM radio.

Ramona resident Danielle Doelman, a firefighter with the Palomar Mountain department, said the fundraising goal is $20,000.

If the department raises $10,000, the chief and captain will get their fingernails painted red, and if it reaches the $20,000 goal, they will also have their hair dyed red with Kool-Aid, she said.

All money raised will go toward department training, station upkeep, and the engine maintenance, said Doelman.

The fire department is at 21610 Crestline Road, Palomar Mountain.
