Wildfire meeting focuses on being ‘ember prepared’

Share

“Wildfire! Is Your Home Ready?” is the topic of the second wildfire preparedness workshop of the summer.

Co-hosted by San Diego Country Estates Association’s Community Relations Department and the Ramona West End Fire Safe Council, the public workshop will be at the Ramona Oaks Park Grandstand, 25341 Pappas Road, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26.

The free event will feature the “Be Ember Prepared” movie, safety demonstrations, refreshments and fire safety door prizes.

A fire department representative will answer questions, sample vents designed to keep embers from getting in the home will be shown, Dave Smith from the Ramona Community Emergency Response Team will demonstrate how to turn off utilities, and a fire extinguisher demonstration is planned.

The first community meeting, held last month at San Vicente Resort, attracted nearly 100 and featured fire, law enforcement and animal service professionals. At that meeting, attendees suggested other meetings be held with each focusing on a different wildfire preparedness topic.

Funding for the event is provided in part by the Cooperative Fire Program of the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, Pacific Southwest Region, through the California Fire Safe Council.

Additional workshops are being discussed but no dates have yet been set.
