Thursday, Aug. 22—

A public scoping meeting on potential improvements to increase safety along a portion of State Route 67 will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Olive Peirce Middle School, 1521 Hanson Lane.

The meeting will be hosted by Caltrans, which calls this the first stage in community discussions regarding possible improvement alternatives for the stretch of SR-67 between Willow Road and Shady Oaks Drive.

At the meeting displays will show what is being proposed and a comment table will be provided.

Caltrans is studying the feasibility of concrete median barriers down the center of SR-67, Joe Hull, office chief with Caltrans traffic operations told the Sentinel in June. The transportation agency is also working on a project report for the highway stretch from Vigilante Road in Lakeside to just south of Highland Valley Road that will provide engineering design and environmental analysis, he said, and will consider installing barriers for that entire section, installing them only in select areas, and “no build.”

Due to head-on collisions on the highway that have resulted in fatalities, residents have called for more safety measures.

Comments on Highway 67 safety measures can be emailed to ct.public.information.d11@dot.ca.gov or mailed to the Caltrans District Office at 4050 Taylor Street MS-121 San Diego CA 92110.
