It took a team to help Coach John Rathbun raise money for his Ramona High School girls golf team.

Rathbun and his assistant coach, Jerry Patenaude, shot 100 holes of golf on Thursday, Aug. 15 to raise funds for the girls golf program.

Assisting Rathbun and Patenaude was the entire staff at the San Vicente Golf Resort. At the halfway mark of the marathon event, Corri Harvey served as scorekeeper, driver and overall support person. Fred and Nikolaus Arcaina drove the pace setting cart that would warn the golfers on the course that Rathbun and Patenaude were on their way and playing through. The marshals and cart attendants kept the twosome hydrated and provided lunch and snacks.

Rathbun recorded 11 birdies and an eagle, and shot rounds of 72, 77, 75, 76, 83, and posted a 38 on the final nine holes. He shot his only double bogie on the final hole. Patenaude’s score was not quite as impressive as Rathbun’s.

“I had a great time and made some good shots but John is a pro and beat me by ‘a couple of strokes,’” said Patenaude.

When asked how he felt the day after the marathon fundraiser, Rathbun replied, “Not bad at all. It was fun and I had a lot of help. We raised some money for the program and got in 100 holes of golf.”

Patenaude just groaned and pointed to his back.

Donations will still be accepted. Call Rathbun at 760-789-3477.
