Competitive loss to Jaguars gives Ramona lacrosse optimism

Ramona High School girls lacrosse team considers the competitiveness of its 11-10 loss at home to Valley Center High School on April 16 to be a step in the right direction.

“It’s one of the best games we’ve had against them and the closest we’ve come to beating them,” said co-captain Mady Stone.

“Our team really played as a team during the game. It was the best I’ve seen us play,” Stone said. “It was a really, really good game.”

The Jaguars had a halftime lead and, while the Bulldogs weren’t able to close the gap completely, the second-half lead was never by more than two goals.

“We kept it very close and we were able to catch up,” Stone said.

Valley Center and Ramona are both in the Valley League, so the loss gave the Bulldogs a 1-5 league record along with a 4-10 overall statistic. Stone feels that the Bulldogs played better in the loss to the Jaguars than in some of their wins against weaker opposition.

“Our game against Valley Center was probably our most impressive,” she said.

“We’ve been doing all right. We’ve been up against some pretty difficult teams,” Stone said. “We’re going to continue to improve.”

Ramona’s Valley League match at San Dieguito Academy was rescheduled from April 19 to May 2. The Bulldogs host Pacific Ridge Thursday and Mt. Carmel on Friday.
