Update, 12:45 p.m., Sept. 28:

John Mantz, 21, faces a charge of driving under the influence after his truck crashed head-on into a Hyundai carrying a 50-year-old father and his 9-year-old daughter Thursday night, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and CHP.

Mantz was booked into San Diego Central Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned in East County Superior Court on Tuesday.

A father and his 9-year-old daughter suffered serious injuries in a crash last night in San Diego Country Estates, reports California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 8:10 p.m. at Ramona Oaks and San Vicente roads. The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck, westbound on Ramona Oaks Road, crossed over the yellow line and hit a Hyundai carrying the father and daughter, said CHP Public Information Officer Brian Pennings.

The father was flown to Sharp Memorial Hospital and the 9-year-old girl was taken by air to Rady Children’s Hospital, he said. Mantz was transported to a hospital by ambulance, according to CHP.

“There’s evidence that DUI was involved,” Pennings said of the pickup truck driver.

The accident is under investigation.

Names of the victims and medical conditions are not available.
