The Thrill of the Drille

Riding patterns, challenging your horse and your skills as a rider can be fun. If you have never tried drill riding, now could be your chance.

I had the wonderful opportunity to ride with the Drille Divas earlier this year and my first drill experience it was a blast! In a relaxed setting with very kind ladies, Cricket and I trotted and loped the patterns we were taught with huge smiles on our faces — yes, even Cricket began to smile once she got the hang of it. Teaching with patience and acceptance, the ladies of Drille Divas made our first experience a delight.

The thrill of the drille is once again coming up. They have put together an amazing venue for those who like horses and wine. For those non-wine-drinkers like me there will be a special soda tasting full of surprises. Sherie promises an evening of fun:

Diva Evening Drille and Wine Tasting

We will have group lessons to learn drill moves, followed by a “just for fun” blind wine tasting. This is dedicated to Equestrian Divas who deserve something special.

No pressure — Just fun. You can come in English or Western tack. All riders must wear a helmet while mounted. All riders must be able to walk, trot, halt and steer. Must be at least 21 years old to participate.

Where: International Equestrian Center

Date: Sept. 22

Time: 4 to 8 p.m.

Entry fee: $40 per rider, includes lessons, dinner and wine tasting.

Each participant will be asked to bring one bottle of wine, not to exceed $10. (Wine should have a cork -- no screw tops or boxes, please -- we ARE Divas!)

We will take care of everything else.

There will be a prize for the wine voted the “best cellar.”

RSVP by Sept. 15 (or ASAP) so we can plan a fabulous evening.
