Tanner Triplett has been playing football for 11 years and he couldn’t have picked a better time to have the best game of his life: The CIF semifinal game against Serra High School.

Last Friday Tanner had an amazing four turnovers. He recovered three fumbles—all of which he helped to

The senior linebacker admits that he is not a big “stats guy.” “I just try to do my best and do what I can to help the team win. To me winning is more important than my individual stats.”

Like fellow linebacker Brawnson Walter, Tanner missed three games with an elbow injury. It’s been said that you can knock a Bulldog down but he won’t stay down for long.

Tanner is quick to give credit and thanks to his position coach and his parents. “Coach Pace (Stefon Pace, linebacker coach and defensive coordinator) has really helped me in all phases of the game. He has helped me improve my fundamentals and speed, and he has helped me in the mental aspect of playing linebacker.”

“My parents (Charlie and Kelly) have been to every game that I have played in since I was six years old.”

Tanner admits that in his wildest dreams he didn’t believe that he would be playing in the CIF finals on Saturday. “It is always our final goal, but I was just hoping to have a winning season. We are a very close team and we worked very hard. Coach Baldwin stressed to ‘do right’ and be 100 percent committed. He was right. We are going to the championship game.”

Tanner is a B student who will attending the University of Colorado in the fall. He plans to major in business.

“Tanner was amazing,” said coach Damon Baldwin. “He may have broken a CIF record with four turnovers. He, like all of our seniors, is playing intense and unselfish football. They have one more game left to play together. This one will be their best ever.”

For outstanding play against Serra High and his unselfish play all season, Tanner Triplett is the Ramona Sentinel Athlete of the Week.
