Ramona’s 32nd annual rodeo was a winner. Contestants set four arena records, total prize money was up $7,000, and an estimated 10,000 people attended the three-day event. That’s up from the 9,100 estimated attendance last year.

Ramona’s May 18-20 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association show set records in barrel racing, bareback riding, team roping, and steer wrestling.

Luke Branquinho from Los Alamos, Calif., set the steer wrestling record with a time of 3.5 seconds, and Keven Daniel and Chase Tryan from respectively, Franklin, Tenn., and Helena, Mont., set the team roping record of 4.7 seconds. In bareback riding, George Gillespie IV’s score of 82 set a record, and Sarah Kieckhefer’s barrel racing time of 15.40 seconds was an arena record. Gillespie is from Placerville, Calif., and Kieckhefer from Prescott, Ariz.

Total payoff of $65,841 was up from last year’s payoff total of $58,758.
