Good places to view partial solar eclipse

Ramona should be a good place to view the partial solar eclipse Sunday evening.

Patchy low clouds could block the view of the partial solar eclipse near beaches in San Diego County, but inland coastal areas to the deserts should be clear, according to the National Weather Service.

The partial solar eclipse over Southern California is expected to begin about 5:30 p.m. It should peak about 6:40 p.m. when 76 percent of the sun will be obscured by the moon, the NWS said.

National Weather Service officials warned that sunglasses are not enough to protect viewers’ eyes during an eclipse. Viewers should not to look directly at the eclipse without proper eye protection, such as eclipse viewing glasses.

The eclipse could also be observed by looking at shadows through a homemade pinhole projector, the NWS said. A pinhole projector could be constructed by making a small hole in a piece of paper or aluminum foil, which can then be held a few feet above a light-colored surface.
