Cal Fire battles brush fire at border

Firefighters are battling a brush fire along the U.S./Mexico border, reports Cal Fire.

The fire in Mexico is approximately 600 acres and crossed into the U.S. just after 11 a.m. Thursday. It is south of Boundary Peak near Jewel Valley between the communities of Boulevard and Jacumba. A southwest wind is moving the fire to the northeast, according to Roxanne Provaznik with Cal Fire.

“Currently we have 11 Engines, eight fire crews, two bulldozers, two water tenders, three helicopters, four airtankers and two chief officers,” she reports.

Cal Fire/San Diego Fire Authority responded to the incident at 9:16 a.m. The cause is unknown, and no structures are threatened.
