Maginnis, Dukes brothers, Devenport win April CJRA events

Ramona’s Jade Maginnis, Hector Dukes, and Benjamin Dukes and San Pasqual’s Macy Devenport were among event winners at April’s California Junior Rodeo Association competition at Zak Ranch in Hemet.

Maginnis won the Pee Wee Roping event, Hector Dukes took first place in Boys Goat Tying, and Benjamin Dukes had the fastest times in Senior Tie-Down Roping and Senior Steer Stopping. Devenport was the Senior Barrel Racing and Senior Pole Bending winner.

Maginnis had won the Pee Wee Roping at the February and March junior rodeos. Her April achievements also included ninth place in Pee Wee Goat Tying.

Ramona’s Kayda Richey was sixth in April’s Goat Tying competition, and she placed seventh in Pee Wee Pole Bending.

Hector Dukes won the Boys Goat Tying for the second consecutive month. His April competition included the Junior Steer Stopping event, in which he finished fifth.

Benjamin Dukes won the Senior Tie-Down Roping for the second time in three months. He had a third-place time in March. He also won the Senior Steer Stopping event in February as well as in April and placed second in the March rodeo.

Ramona’s Austin Hayes was fourth at the Senior Steer Stopping in Hemet while Devenport was seventh.

In the Ribbon Roping event, Benjamin Dukes teamed with ribbon runner Rachael Asbell of Escondido to take fourth place at Hemet.

Devenport has won all three Senior Barrel Racing competitions and all three Senior Pole Bending races this year. In April Ramona’s Alexis Awrey placed seventh in Pole Bending and eighth in Barrel Racing.

Devenport was third in April’s Breakaway Roping competition and third among Team Roping headers.
