I just got back from a weekend earning my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate. It encompassed fitness, movement, nutrition, and education.
I spent my weekend working on my passion and expanding my knowledge base so I can come home and be motivated and recharged to help people achieve their goals in fitness and wellness.
Fitness is my passion and I am blessed to have my passion as my career.
Do you hate your job? Do you live for the weekend? Are you a clock watcher? Chances are you hate your job.
We spend 22 percent of our lives working, and 80 percent of us hate their jobs. I’d love to tell you that, if you are not living your passion, drop everything and chase your dream.
This wouldn’t be prudent. We all have responsibilities, spouses, bills, car payments, and kids.
What I’m not telling you is to do nothing. You must do something.
Here are a couple options to get you headed in the right direction:
Get involved — This can be on a volunteer basis to get started. If you love hot rods and cars, volunteer some time at a local hot rod shop to see what the business is like. This may fuel your fire or may make you realize that maybe the business side is not what you thought.
Online School — If you are like most people, you have responsibilities and are not able to logistically go back to school, but online school has really exploded and many degrees are offered that once weren’t.
Find a Mentor — Find someone who is a leader in your passion and pay them their hourly rate for time on the phone to ask all the questions that you’ve had about your passion.
A mentor can open your eyes to the in’s and out’s of your desired career. You may think being a public speaker or actor is what you really want to do, but come to find out that all the travel and life on the road is a detriment.
When it comes to living your passion, don’t give in and give up just because you’re in your 40s or 50s. Be smart, but have some guts and at least take a shot in some form.
One last thing, you must ALWAYS take the positive out of any situation. You can have islands of happiness in your work even if you don’t like your job completely. Let these islands fuel your attitude and work ethic, and always give your best for the sake of a job well done.
