RHS tennis team beats San Pasqual

The Ramona High School varsity tennis team got off to a fast start by beating San Pasqual High School 12-6 at Ramona Oaks Resort and Racquet Club.

The team has seven returning lettermen. Of those, two are seniors.

The two senior lettermen are the number one doubles team of John Shupe and Tyler McDonald. Shupe is the 2012 team captain.

Junior lettermen are Scotty Barber and Daniel Streeter. Christian Failla, Chad Martin, and Nick Peterson are sophomores who lettered last season as freshmen.

Juniors Jack Melleker and Ricky Flores are new to the squad, as are sophomores Garrett Wilcox and Joey Guzzino. Freshman Adam Mazzola also made the team.

In singles action, Streeter manned the number one spot and turned in scores of 3-6, 6-4, and 6-0 to win 2 team points. Christian Failla also won 2 points for the team by going 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), and 6-0. Mazzola took one set by going 0-6 and 6-2. Guzzino played one set and posted a score of 0-6.

In doubles action, Shupe and McDonald cruised through the match by posting identical 6-0 scores in all three of their sets. Martin and Peterson helped the cause by winning two sets with scores of 4-6, 6-1, and 7-5. Melleker and Wilcox went 1-6 and 6-2. Melleker also teamed up with Flores, and the duo went 6-2.
