Event benefits group’s

scholarship program

Intermountain Republican Women Federated will hold its Mexican Fiesta Fundraiser in Ramona Oaks Park on Monday, June 25. Proceeds benefit the organization’s Scholarship Program.

Gift baskets, a silent auction, a guest speaker familiar with Iraq and Afghanistan, and lifelong Ramona resident and radio personality Dinah Smith are among highlights of the event, which will start at 5:45 p.m. The park is on Pappas Road in San Diego Country Estates.

A Mexican-style buffet dinner is planned, and the silent auction will feature a Harbor Bay Cruise for six on the Paso Tiempo, a private yacht.

Jennifer Vitela will be the speaker for the evening. She recently completed three deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan for the U.S. State Department.

Her experience abroad began with a tour serving as the senior governance adviser for the Anbar Provincial Reconstruction Team headquartered in western Iraq. She worked with provincial government officials in Ramadi, war widows in Fallujah, and appointed leaders and sheikhs from the districts along the Syrian border.

Shortly after she returned from Iraq, Vitela deployed to Afghanistan, where she was named the Partner Nation Outreach Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. She was responsible for collaborating with NATO to improve support for the mission among donor and troop-contributing nations.

Prior to working with the State Legislature, Vitela worked for the California Republican Party, the Orange County Republican Party, and various local and statewide campaigns.

Also speaking at the meeting will be Smith, newscaster on the Mike Slater Show on 760 KFMB AM.

Reservations must be made by June 20. Cost is $15.

Intermountain RWF welcomes members, spouses and guests from Ramona, Julian, Santa Ysabel, and surrounding areas.
