Officials order evacuations in Old Fire

Cal Fire and the county fire authority are working two brush fires in San Diego County, one near Boulevard and one near Valley Center.

The largest of the two fires is the Old Fire near Boulevard south of Old Highway 80 and east of Miller Valley Road. The fire is 200 acres, one structure has been destroyed, and sheriff’s deputies are evacuating the area. The type of structure destroyed is unknown, reports Roxanne Provaznik.

Residents in the 37000 block of Old Highway 80 and those on Church and

Crestwood roads near the fire were asked to head east from the area, according

to a sheriff’s department dispatcher. Sheriff’s officials worked to initiate a

reverse 911 system to notify those in the affected area, she said.

High temperatures and erratic winds are hampering firefighting efforts.

Approximate number of resources: 30 engines, 8 fire crews, 4 airtankers, 4 helicopters, 5 water tenders, 3 chief officers — for a total of 200-plus firefighters.

The fire started around 3 p.m. and the cause is under investigation.

The second fire is near North Lake Wohlford Road and Woods Valley Road near Valley Center. This fire is approximately 25 acres. This fire started around 4 pm.
