Major League draft selects RHS grads

Ramona High School athletes Kailey Hill and Jackson Willeford have both earned All CIF honors for their performances in the 2012 season.

Hill was named to the first string on the 2012 San Diego Section All CIF softball team. It is the highest post-season team to which a San Diego CIF Section player can be selected. Hill, a sophomore, has made a verbal commitment to the University of San Diego.

Willeford, a senior, was selected to the first team on the 2012 San Diego Section All CIF baseball team.

On the same day that the team was released, Willeford was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball draft. At press time Willeford was undecided as to whether he will go to college in the fall or sign a professional contract. Either way it appears that he will heading to Arizona. He has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Arizona and Kansas City has a minor league affiliate in Arizona.

Also selected in the 12th round was 2009 Ramona High School graduate and Cal State Northridge right-handed pitcher Alex Muren. Muren was drafted by the Minnesota Twins. Muren has one more year of college eligibility, but has signed with the Twins and has been assigned to their affiliate in Fort Myers, Fla. — the Gulf Coast Twins.

There is a remote possibility that if he moves up a level he will have to face his brother, Drew Muren, who is playing for the Lexington Legends, Houston Astros’ minor league affiliate. The Muren brothers are the first brothers from Ramona High School to play professional baseball.

Muren and Willeford were teammates at Ramona High School.
