Infant dies from injuries, investigation continues
A female infant who was flown to Rady’s Children’s Hospital on July 4, with what were believed to be fatal injuries, was pronounced dead around 4:35 p.m. on Friday, reported the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The child has been identified as 8-month-old Liliana Velasquez. She was at a home in the 2600 block of Southern Oak Road when deputies and firefighters were called to the residence shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The girl was first reported to be 7 months old.
“The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office,” stated Lt. Larry Nesbit with the sheriff’s homicide detail. “The results of the autopsy have been sealed by the sheriff’s department. As this investigation is continuing, no further information will be released at this time.”
A male inside the residence at the time of the incident was questioned, according to the sheriff’s department.
Nesbit said investigators from the sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit, Homicide Detail and Crime Lab are participating in the investigation.
