Wine and food pairing to benefit mural project
The board of Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Murals is planning its first major fundraiser to coincide with the installation of the first mural of the 20 to 30 planned over the next five years.
The community is invited to what the board promises will be an elegant wine and food pairing on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Milagro Farm Vineyard & Winery.
“The newest gem in the necklace of Ramona Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) winery tasting rooms at 18750 Littlepage Road sits on 110 acres of park-like land near the intersection of Highway 78 and Old Julian Highway,” said Elaine Lyttleton, president of the mural project board. “The H.E.A.R.T. Mural event will be held in the exclusive Crush House and Wine Cave, venues not open to the public but only made available to wine club member events and by special arrangement for small groups such as this H.E.A.R.T. Mural Fundraiser.”
Winemaker Jim Hart and proprietor Kit Sickels have chosen five wines, most of which are estate grown, and include their Sparkling Apple Wine (also made from apples on the estate), Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines will be paired with an appropriate food or “small bite” from John Little Catering of Ramona.
“The tasty morsels, final menu still in the planning, will likely include such fare as an artisan cheese display; griddled flatbread with prosciutto, shaved radiccio, grained mustard and parmesan garnish; or an Italian lollipop (mozzarella ball, grape tomato, basil leaf on a skewer),” said Lyttleton. “A dessert bite will likely be a red velvet brownie bite or an Oreo bomb. The elegant ambiance will be enhanced by music provided by local concert violinist, Andrew Stubbs.”
The price of the special event is $45 per person, with the venue limiting attendance to 100 people. Reservation deadline is Sunday, Feb. 5.

“Dress up a bit in dressy but warm casual attire and flat shoes, grab your Valentine, and come impress her or him at this special event, while helping a worthy cause at the same time,” said Lyttleton.
The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project’s mission is “To encourage economic vitality by increasing tourism, promoting community pride, and celebrating our rich cultural heritage through an outstanding outdoor visual arts program.”
The board of the mural project has secured artists John and Jeanne Whalen to paint the first mural, which will depict American cowboy, rodeo performer and actor Casey Tibbs who lived part of his life in Ramona. The mural will be painted on the tower area of the Town & Country Real Estate & Home Loans building at the corner of Main and 10th streets. The Whalens are renowned in San Diego for painting the mural of Charles Lindberg on the Commuter Terminal at the San Diego Airport.
