Youth Basketball League Standouts of the Week

Elexis Espina

“E,” as her friends on the court call her, is the leading scorer for the “Screaming Divas.” She has 41 points in four games. Elexis is a fifth-grader at Barnett Elementary, and is an “A” student. She played Ramona Pony Baseball for the past three years as shortstop, pitcher and second baseman. Her favorite sport is basketball, and Elexis has hopes of becoming a WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) player one day.

Jake Newman

Jake is among the top 3 in points for his division with 47 points in four games. He plays on the “Kool Kats,” a team that is 2-1 so far this season. Jake is a seventh-grader and an “A” student at Olive Peirce Middle School. When Jake is not on the court, he loves reading, piano and rooting for the Utah Jazz and Brigham Young University.
