Rain expected in county midday Monday

A Pacific winter storm is expected to bring rain, wind and snow into the county, the National Weather Service predicted today.

Forecasters expect the rain to begin Monday morning in Orange County and move to San Diego County by midday. Between .25 to .75 inches of rain are predicted to fall, including as much as 1 inch in some west-facing mountain slopes, according to the NWS.

Winds are predicted to range between 30 and 40 miles per hour with gusts of up to 60 mph. Areas above 6,000 feet may get an inch of snow, the NSW reported.

The high winds will make driving high-profile vehicles like trucks and motor homes difficult on mountain and desert roads, the NWS warned.

A high surf advisory was in effect Sunday along the coast, and a high wind warning was posted for the mountains and deserts.

The high surf advisory was expected to be in effect until 2 p.m. Tuesday.
