Unexpected visitors surprise Boys and Girls Club members

Members of the Ramona Branch of the Boys & Girls Club had an unexpected opportunity to learn about zebras and camels on Jan. 11, when the Hearts and Hands Animal Rescue showed up at Collier Park.

The animals were out for a walk with their trainers to help them become acclimated to different surroundings and people. Club members were quite surprised and amazed to see a zebra outside the window of the clubhouse art room.

Their excitement prompted staff member Kathe Rothe to talk with the trainers and receive permission to bring the club members out for an educational lesson with Nancy Nunke, Ramona resident and director of Hearts and Hands Animal Rescue.

The young zebra named Zavannah, was just as excited to see the club members, who were able to help prepare her for future groups by getting her used to applause.

A six-month-old camel named Aria stole the show with a funny trot initiated by club members mimicking the “camel dance.”

Boys & Girls Club members and staff thank Hearts and Hands Animal Rescue for providing this wonderful experience.
