Wrestlers hold down Oceanside, square off with Poway this week

Coach Steve Koch’s Bulldog wrestlers got their last dual meet tune-up before entering the Palomar League. Koch’s grapplers beat Oceanside High School 54-15, with Oceanside forfeiting five bouts in the match.
Vince Adair (106) started Ramona off by recording a 19-4 technical fall over the Pirate’s Joe Sosa to give the Dawgs a lead that they would not relinquish.
Elias Ramirez then beat Martin Dowers by decision to make it a 6-3 match.
Beau Bailey, Grant Faddis and Kevin Conroy all won by forfeit and Ramona led 24-3.
The Pirates sent Aliar Mejia in the 138 bout to face Isaiah Ilich, who responded with 8-3 win. Ray Lemon recorded the fastest fall of the match by pinning Elmer Gutierrez in 1:52 in the 145-pound bout. Will Tate (152) beat Alex Gomez by fall.
Jacob Grybow registered a major decision over the Pirate’s Marcus Cerda in the 160-pound class.
The Pirates chose not to send a wrestler to face Devin Rhodes in the 170-pound bout. Andy Burns (182) lost by fall to V.J. Velasco.
Josh Allen got Ramona back on the winning track with a 9-6 decision over Connor Stotts in the 195 bout.
Brawnson Walter received Ramona’s fifth forfeit of the match at 220. Jureall Simmons finished the match by beating Alex Cerna 4-2 in the heavyweight bout.
Ramona faces national power Poway tonight in the Dawg House.
“We would like to see a big crowd at the match,” said Koch. “Two potential CIF champs will square off and it will be a very exciting match. Let’s show Poway how we support our wrestlers.”
