Riviera Oaks tennis team celebrates two first-place wins

Ramona’s Riviera Oaks Pink Tennis Team is celebrating its second major first-place win of 2011.

The team recently won the 2011 Leah’s League BB Inland Division Championship against nine other tennis clubs in the San Diego region. Members of the BB Pink Team, captained by Juanita Cappadocia, played their last league match against Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club. The Ramona team figured they would need to capture at least 4 out of 9 possible points against the Scripps Ranch team to win the division title and they did just that with 4.2 points.

Overall, it was very tough competition with the Ramona team getting enough points to win the division, they agreed.

This isn’t the first time Cappadocia led her team to victory. In the spring, the Riviera Oaks Pink Team won the Tennis Competitor’s League of San Diego BB Inland Division #1. The division in this league consisted of eight other San Diego region tennis clubs.

The Riviera Oaks Pink Team members say their team is very close. They often get together off the courts for social events.

Their annual Indian Wells weekend to watch the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament is coming in March and is already in the planning stages. There, they enjoy a weekend of watching professional tennis while relaxing and socializing with each other.

They agree it’s not all about winning, but said they work hard to do their best on the courts and support each other.

In addition to Cappadocia, members of the team are Nancy Garbo, Saskia Gitmans, Mary Gray, Joyce Hirsch, Terri Johnson, Jaye Matthews, Norma McDonald, Paige Megna, Betsy Michaels, Lisa Miller, Debbie Nowakowski, Kim Owens, Debbie Parks, Roberta Porterfield, Jerrie Raymer, Suzanne Shupe, Pamela Starmack and Cindy White.
