Ramona Chamber of Commerce announced today the 2011 award finalists for Ramona Citizen of the Year, Ramona Business of the year and Ramona Non-Profit Organization of the Year.

“It was a particularly difficult decision this year,” said Ralph Mittman, Ramona Chamber of Commerce director who chaired the awards committee.

Selection of the finalists came after careful review and consideration of more than 20 quality nominations, said Mittman.

“The committee was not only impressed with the number of nominations, but with the caliber of the individuals, businesses, and nonprofit agencies that were nominated,” he said.

For nearly 50 years (31 consecutively), Ramona has recognized individuals and business owners who have gone above and beyond without personal agenda, making Ramona a better place to work and live, said MIttman. This year’s finalists were chosen based on their impact of services, volunteer hours, and contributions made to the Ramona community as a whole.

Carol Fowler, Don Owen and Sharon Davis are finalists for Citizen of the Year as a result of their individual community involvement, volunteerism, and leadership.

European Services, Ramona Family Naturals, Dr. Hill Family Dentist and SDG&E are business of the year finalists.

“Each of these businesses deserves to be recognized for their abundant community support and countless contributions,” said Mittman.

Ramona Outdoor Community Center and the Ramona Branch of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego are finalists under the nonprofit organization category.

“These philanthropic agencies bring a tremendous amount of value to our town and make things happened that would not otherwise be possible,” said Mittman, reiterating, “The selection process was challenging, but in the end, each of the finalists should be commended for a job well done.”

Nominations for the awards were accepted from mid-November to late December and could be made by members of the public.

Winners for the 2011 Ramona Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Non-Profit Organization of the Year, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award will be announced at the annual Ramona Chamber Installation Dinner scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 15, at San Vicente Golf Resort at 24157 San Vicente Road. Cocktails will be at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6.
