The only goal in the CIF Division II playoff game Feb. 22 between the Ramona High School and Serra High School boys soccer teams was scored by Serra in the first three minutes of the game.

“That was a very good team,” Ramona Coach Michael Jordan said of Serra. “Our boys just came out really kind of nervous and flat. It was disappointing.”

Serra’s 1-0 home victory advanced the Conquistadors to the Feb. 25 quarterfinals against La Costa Canyon while ending Ramona’s season with a 10-12-3 overall record and a 3-6-1 mark in Palomar League competition.

The Bulldogs finished fifth in the Palomar League standings.

Ramona goalie Jesse Bonilla made eight saves against Serra. Ramona also had nine shots during the game.

“It was a back and forth game,” Jordan said. “We had quite a few opportunities there at the end, throughout the game. We made some formation changes and we had some guys who were making some offensive runs which created great opportunities, but just couldn’t get it done.”

Ramona’s 22-player roster included nine seniors, seven of whom were starters.
