Boys and Girls Club Youth Basketball Standouts

Michael Thorson

Michael is in the top three in his division with 90 points in 8 games. A sixth-grader at Mt. Woodson Elementary, he is a very good student with an A/B+ average. Michael loves school and excels in math and reading. He is participating in choir and in honor band where he plays trombone. He is thinking about studying medicine when he grows up. Michael also loves sports. He has played soccer and is also playing baseball. He cannot wait to play football in high School. Michael’s nickname among family is “Mini-Moose,” after his older brother, who was the original “Moose” and who played offensive lineman for Brigham Young University.

Matt Abruzzo

Matt and his team are tied for first place this season. He’s in the top 3 with 98 points and an average of 13 points a game. Matt attends Olive Peirce Middle School and has a 3.79 GPA. He also plays baseball for MIT, a travel baseball team. His favorite teams are the New York Knicks and the San Francisco Giants. Matt also loves to read and watch ESPN, and he does CrossFit training at Brand X.
