Gasoline prices continue to climb

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Sunday to its highest amount since May 25, increasing 2.5 cents to $4.059.

The average price has risen for 25 consecutive days and is 19.4 cents more than one week ago, 33.2 cents higher than a month ago and 50.8 cents more than a year ago, according to the American Automobile Association and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has risen 30.2 cents over the past 25 days, including 2.5 cents on Saturday.

Analysts have cited increasing oil prices and the closure of some California refineries for maintenance as reasons for the rising gasoline prices.

Crude oil costs account for two-thirds to three-quarters of the price of a gallon of gasoline, according to Tupper Hull of the Western States Petroleum Association, a trade association representing oil companies in six western states.
