Food and Clothes Closet invites students to apply for scholarships

Share

High school seniors and graduates have an opportunity to receive $2,000 to $18,000 in scholarships. The first steps are to complete 40 hours of community service at Ramona Food & Clothes Closet and then submit an application.

Applications for Ramona Food & Clothes Closet’s Community Spirit Scholarships will be accepted from March 1 through May 31.

The nonprofit organization’s Community Spirit Scholarship provides financial support for high school seniors and graduates, including home schooled students, living in Ramona, San Ysabel, Julian, Ranchita, Warner Springs or Borrego Springs; who are pursuing college or vocational education beyond high school.

The total amount available to a student will range from $2,000 up to $18,000 and will apply to tuition and fees only.

Applicants will be required to make a formal application and be interviewed by a Scholarship Selection Committee. Not all applicants will be selected as only a limited amount of funding is available each year for the program.

Applicants must have completed a minimum of 40 hours volunteer community service during the preceding 12 months at the Ramona Food & Clothes Closet.

Individuals desiring to apply in 2012 should immediately call Ramona Food & Clothes Closet’s General Manager Carlos Murcia or Assistance Manager DeeAnn Anderson at 760-789-4458 to schedule the required community service.

Murcia and Anderson will also provide applicants with a formal application package.

For more information about the program, call or email Scholarship Program Chairman Jeff Funk at 760-789-5056 or funk2coxnet@yahoo.com or visit the Ramona Food & Clothes Closet at 773 Main St. and ask for Murcia or Anderson.
