Ramona Pop Warner Cheer’s two competitive squads ended a successful season, earning an opportunity to participate in regional and national contests.

“Participation in the Pop Warner Spirit Program provides kids an opportunity to perform in an organized, supervised, safety-oriented environment,” said Tanya SanFilippo, cheer director on the Ramona Pop Warner Board and head coach of the Junior Pee Wee squad. “Pop Warner programs emphasize fun for all and encourage the development of qualities important long after Pop Warner days are gone.”

The Junior Pee Wee Squad competed in three competitions during the 2011-12 season. In October they competed in the local Palomar Conference competition and placed third. On Nov. 19, in Anaheim they competed in a JAMZ bid challenge and placed first, walking away with a trophy.

“This qualified the team to compete in Las Vegas on Jan. 28,” said SanFilippo. “They then placed fourth out of seven, again receiving a trophy. We are very proud of our girls.”

The Midget Squad also competed in three competitions. In October they placed first in the local Palomar Conference Competition, receiving a trophy. In November they again placed first in their Long Beach Regional Competition, with another trophy. This qualified them to go to Florida in December and compete nationwide.

“They took eighth out of 15 and we are so proud of them,” said SanFilippo.

Ramona Pop Warner will have three to four competitive cheer squads and two to three non-competitive squads in the coming season.

“RPW Cheer squads can compete year-round and also get to cheer on the local RPW football players,” said SanFilippo.

Registrations for the 2012 season start on March 3 at the Pop Warner practice fields on Aqua Lane between the rodeo grounds and Pony Baseball fields.
