Ramona Elementary principal earns regional award
Phyllis Muñoz, principal of Ramona Elementary School, is Region 18 of the Association for California School
Administrators’ (ACSA) choice for Elementary Principal of the Year.
“Based upon her strong leadership skills and the remarkable rise in student achievement over the past three years at Ramona Elementary School, she will be receiving this award representing all of San Diego and Imperial counties,” Ramona school district Superintendent Robert Graeff announced in a news release.
“If these kids weren’t so smart, no one would have recognized me,” Muñoz said on Monday, pointing to students she was talking with on the school lawn.
Administrators and board members representing ACSA and California School Boards Association will present Muñoz with her official recognition in a special awards dinner on April 20. Muñoz, an educator for 34 years, is in her eighth year as Ramona Elementary principal.
