Snow, wind forecast for Julian area
Wednesday, Dec. 26—
Snow showers were expected in the mountains of San Diego County today.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for mountain areas above 5,000 feet from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. According to the agency, higher elevations were likely to have a few inches of snow accumulation.
“Snow is expected to be most widespread from around 10 a.m. through mid-afternoon,” according to an NWS advisory. “Snow showers may linger through this evening, ending late tonight.”
Also, the mountains and the deserts were likely to have strong winds today. A wind advisory for both areas was due to be in effect until 10 p.m.
According to the Weather Service, sustained southwest to west winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour were likely in the mountains, along with gusts up to 55 mph.
“Residents and travelers into higher elevations in the mountains should be prepared for hazardous driving conditions due to slick roads,” forecasters said. “If possible, carry chains and take extra food and clothing.”
