Dawg Pack cheer takes fifth place at national competition

Ramona Pop Warner’s Pee Wee cheer and dance team, the Dawg Pack, traveled to the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Disneyworld in Orlando, Fla., where it competed and took fifth place at the 2012 Pop Warner Cheer and Dance National Championships.

The Dawg Pack’s journey to Orlando started in August with the kick-off of Pop Warner football and cheer season. The girls practiced and provided game day spirit for the Dawg Pack football team each week through the final football game, the Packwood Bowl, in early November.

Competition season started at Viejas Arena where the Pack hoisted the first place trophy and earned an invite to Pop Warner’s Regional Western Conference (Wescon) Championships in Long Beach. At regionals, the Pack took second place and qualified for nationals.

After a couple fun-filled days of seeing the sights and taking in some Pop Warner Superbowl football, the Dawg Pack performed in a category comprised of 16 cheer teams from all over the country. Ramona’s fifth place win earned high marks for tumbling, pyramid, and stunt complexity.

“I am very proud of these girls—this is the first year of cheer and dance for more than half of this team. Each one worked very hard and they all came together to form a very solid team—a championship caliber team,” said head coach Katherine Pecoraro. “Our success is due to the dedication and commitment of not only the girls, but also a group of special young ladies that graciously shared their time, knowledge, and experience to help the Dawg Pack realize its fullest potential—each current or former member of Ramona High School cheer, Courteney Lisowski, Kaelah Depaola, Alyssa Gaona, Koryne Martinez, and Julia Kosut were key to all that the Dawg Pack accomplished; we could not have done this without them.”

The next stop for the Pack, along with the Bulldawgs and Dawg Pound cheer and dance squads, is the JAMZ National Championships in Las Vegas. For more information about Ramona Pop Warner football and cheer, visit ramonapopwarner.net or call 760-440-0609.
