Sunshine today, storm late Wednesday, say forecasters

Tuesday, Dec.11—Sunshine will drench San Diego County today ahead of a cold low pressure system expected to bring rain and possibly snow to the region starting late Wednesday, forecasters said.

The system out of the Gulf of Alaska will move through southwest California late Wednesday through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall amounts from the system were expected to be from a quarter-in to three-quarters of an inch.

The snow level Thursday should fall to around 4,000 to 4,500 feet, with several inches of snowfall possible above 5,000 feet, according to the weather service. The agency also said isolated thunderstorms were possible Thursday.

Temperatures on Thursday will be 10 to 15 degrees below average for this time of year, according to a NWS advisory.

Highs today were expected to be in the mid-60s near the coast, high 60s to low 70s inland and in the valleys, high 50s to high 60s in the mountains, and low 70s in the deserts.
