Unless more Ramonans file as candidates in the Nov. 6 election, voters will not be casting ballots for Ramona planning group and water board, and they’ll be choosing two of three contenders for seats on the school board.

Ramonans interested in seeking four-year terms on the school board, water board and planning group have until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, to file as candidates with the San Diego County Registrar of Voters office.

As of Wednesday morning, three people had filed for two seats on the Ramona Unified School District Board—incumbents Dan Lopez and Dawn Perfect and retired educator/businessman John M. Rajcic.

Three seats on the five-member Ramona Municipal Water District are open: Divisions 1, 3 and 5. Water board directors are elected by division, and only voters within each division’s geographic boundaries may vote.

Division 3 representative Bryan Wadlington, who is board president this year, is seeking a second term. George W. Foote, a retired sheriff’s lieutenant, has filed for the Division 5 seat now held by Everett “Red” Hager, who has said he does not plan to seek a third term.

No candidates had yet filed for the Division 1 seat on the water board. Darrell Beck is completing his first term as Division 1 director.

At least two candidates are needed in each of the three open water board divisions for there to be an election.

As of Wednesday morning, incumbents Richard Tomlinson and Paul Stykel and behavioral health manager Robin Joy Maxson were the only candidates for the eight seats open on the 15-member Ramona Community Planning Group. Unless at least nine people file, there will be no planning group election.

The eight planning group members whose terms expire this year are: Chris Anderson, Torry Brean, Bob Hailey, Eb Hogervorst, Jim Piva, Paul Stykel, Angus Tobiason, and Tomlinson. Tobiason has indicated he will not seek re-election.

Candidate filing details are online at sdcounty.ca.gov/voters/Eng/Eindex.shtml or at 858-565-5800 or at the Registrar of Voters office, 5201 Ruffin Road, Suite 1, San Diego.
