Planners welcome parks and rec ideas

Richard Tomlinson, chair of the Ramona Community Planning Group’s parks and recreation subcommittee, has compiled a list of recreation project priorities for the county’s Park Land Dedication Ordinance (PLDO) and said he is open to other suggestions.

Tomlinson presented his list to the Ramona planning group at its April 5 meeting and said there is about $600,000 in the PLDO fund for Ramona.

On an annual basis, the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation requests a five-year priority list from each planning group or other approved entity within the unincorporated areas for use of PLDO funds. The parks department considers projects on the lists and determines whether to bring the recommendations forward to the county board of supervisors for consideration.

The following projects have been suggested, some with costs estimates:

•Ramona Community School Playground (in progress) — $97,900,

•Ramona High school recreational improvements, Phase 1 -— $250,000,

•Ramona Skate Park —- $90,000,

•Collier Park garden improvements,

•Santa Maria Greenway interpretive area at Montecito Road staging area,

•Ramona Soccer League, and

•Old Ramona rodeo grounds improvements at the former Davis-Eagle Ranch.
