Lightning triggers fires in backcountry

The Chihuahua fire is 75 acres and 5 percent contained, with no structures threatened, reports Cal Fire. The spread of the fire has slowed.

The Border fire was 100 percent contained at 5:50 p.m.

Original report: Cal Fire is on the scene of several lightning-caused fires in San Diego County’s backcountry on Friday afternoon.

The Chihuahua fire, reported at 4:25 p.m., is near the community of Sunshine Summit and just before 5 p.m. was 2 to 3 acres in size off Chihuahua Valley Road and spreading rapidly. Some structures are threatened.

The Border fire near the community of Boulevard is 10 acres and spreading rapidly, reports Cal Fire. The fire, reported at 4:24 p.m., is off Tierra Real Lane and structures are threatened.

The Lucky fire, reported at 3:02 p.m. off Sunrise Highway in Mt. Laguna, was contained at one-quarter acre. No structures were threatened.

The Cain fire north of the Manzanita Indian Reservation was contained at 1 acre. No structures were threatened.
