Trails group promises fun at Spurs, Spokes and Sneakers

Share

The Ramona Trails Association (RTA) invites riders, bikers and hikers to its annual Spurs, Spokes and Sneakers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Open to the public, the fundraising event, which includes a silent auction with thousands of dollars of prizes, opportunity drawings and lunch, will be held at the RTA trail staging area at the Ramona Community Park on Aqua Street.

The approximate two-hour ride/hike will start from the RTA staging area and leave in groups between 9 and 10 a.m. Participants can follow the trails for chances to win prizes from a poker hand or opportunity drawing tickets. Participants can walk, ride a horse or ride a mountain bike.

There will also be activities at the staging area, giving families and others who want to opt out of the trail portion something to do.

Lunch will feature SSS signature sausage by Bisher’s Quality Meats and a slaw made exclusively for the event by Da Tuna Shack.

The auction will start at 12:30 p.m.

Silent auction items and opportunity drawing prizes include tickets for four to Disneyland, tickets for 10 to the Holiday Bowl, and tickets to the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and Midway Museum.

Also included are packages for an Idyllwild vacation, a Hornblower cruise, and to Del Mar Thoroughbred Club horse racing.

Gift cards and certificates for restaurants, fitness, golf, accounting, feed stores, and paintball, and items and gift baskets that include jewelry, wine, hats, saddles and other tack, author-signed books and cigars are also listed as prizes.

Event organizers say they have a few surprises planned for the event.

This year’s goal is to raise $5,000. Ramona Trail Association is a non-profit 501c3.

The event is $25 for RTA members, $30 for non-members, and $10 for children 12 years or younger. The registration fee includes lunch, one drawing ticket and one poker hand (adults only). Extra drawing tickets may be purchased or “earned” along the trail. Non-trail participants can have lunch and an opportunity drawing package for $10.
