Overturned tractor-trailer closes SR-78 east of Ramona

Share

State Route 78 east of Ramona is closed from Third Street to Old Julian Highway while emergency crews clear the scene of an accident involving an overturned truck and trailer. A CHP officer said it will most likely reopen around 6 p.m.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted onto Third Street to Old Julian Highway, and westbound traffic will be sent directed to take Old Julian Highway to Third Street, the California Highway Patrol website states.

The tractor-trailer that overturned was hauling grain to the Pine Hill Egg Farm, said CHP Officer Billy O’Connor. The driver said he was going slow around a curve and the trailer slowly started to overturn, said O’Connor. The only injuries the driver sustained were some abrasions to the arm, the officer added. No other vehicles were involved.

O’Connor estimated about a quarter of the 80,000 pounds of grain spilled onto the highway and shoulder.
