The Bulldog tennis team lost its season opener to Serra High School 10-8.

This season the girls varsity team has a roster with five seniors, three juniors, a sophomore and a freshman.

Seniors Savannah Goodson, Rachel Vaca, Taylor Romero, Hannah Kramer and Dallas Forbes will be playing their final season at RHS.

Goodson and Vaca are the number one doubles team. They have been partners for two years and opened the season by winning two of three sets at Serra. Goodson is in her third year of varsity play and Vaca is returning for her fourth year.

“They played very well and lost to their number one team in a very close tie breaker,” said Coach Doug Failla.

Hannah Kramer and Dallas Forbes both lettered last year and will be doubles partners. The twosome picked up a set against Serra.

Taylor Romero is back for her second season on the varsity and is primarily a singles player. She won a set against the Conquistadors.

Juniors Dayna Lake, Ellen Douglas and Kelly Gallagher have made the varsity roster. Lake is back for her third year of varsity action and will play in the number one singles spot. She picked up 3 team points at Serra.

Douglas is a first year varsity player and will play singles. Failla said she played well at Serra in her first varsity action.

Gallagher is versatile and can play doubles and singles. She is also a first year varsity player.

Ninth-grader Rebecca Romero and sophomore Lauren Dunker are teaming up as doubles partners and are both first year varsity players. The pair won one set at Serra in their first taste of varsity action.

“We are getting better every day and progressing well,” said Goodson. “We had good practices and are ready for the season.”
